Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steaks:
• 1 lb ground beef (or half beef, half turkey)
• 1 egg
• ¼ cup breadcrumbs
• 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
• ½ tsp garlic powder
• ½ tsp onion powder
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ tsp black pepper

For the Potatoes:
• 3 medium russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, diced
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• Salt and pepper to taste

For the Onion Gravy:
• 1 tbsp butter
• 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
• 2 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 tbsp flour
• 1 ½ cups beef broth (low sodium)
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• ½ tsp dried thyme (optional)
• Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Make the Salisbury Steaks
In a bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
Mix gently until just combined.
Form into 4 oval-shaped patties. Set aside.

Step 2: Cook the Potatoes
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.
Add diced potatoes, season with salt and pepper, and cook for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden brown and fork-tender.
Transfer potatoes to a plate and set aside.

Step 3: Brown the Steaks
In the same skillet, add a small drizzle of oil if needed and brown the Salisbury steak patties for 3–4 minutes per side until well-seared.
Remove from the pan and set aside (they’ll finish cooking in the gravy).

Step 4: Make the Gravy
Add butter to the skillet and sauté the sliced onions for 5–6 minutes until soft and golden.
Add garlic and cook for another minute.
Sprinkle in flour and stir constantly for 1 minute to form a roux.
Slowly pour in beef broth, stirring to avoid lumps.
Add Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 3–4 minutes until thickened.

Step 5: Combine & Simmer
Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy.
Cover and simmer on low for 10 minutes, until the patties are fully cooked and infused with flavor.
Add the cooked potatoes back to the skillet and stir gently to coat them with gravy.

Step 6: Serve & Enjoy
Serve hot, garnished with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.
Optional sides: steamed green beans, roasted carrots, or a crisp green salad.

Notes

Don’t Overmix – Gentle mixing keeps patties tender.
Use Yukon Gold – They stay creamy and hold their shape well.
Gravy Thickness – Add more broth for a thinner sauce or simmer longer to thicken.
Make it Cheesy – Sprinkle shredded cheddar on top and broil for 2–3 minutes.
Add Veggies – Mushrooms, peas, or carrots make great additions.
