Ingredients

Scale

For the Orange Bread:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup plain yogurt (or sour cream)

  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice (from 23 oranges)

  • 1 tbsp orange zest (packed)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Orange Glaze:

  • ¾ cup powdered sugar

  • 23 tbsp fresh orange juice

  • ½ tsp orange zest (optional, for extra flavor)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare the Pan
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Set aside.

Step 3: Whisk the Wet Ingredients
In a separate medium bowl, combine sugar and orange zest.
Rub them together with your fingers to release the natural oils from the zest.
Whisk in eggs, yogurt, vegetable oil, orange juice, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Step 4: Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients.
Gently stir with a spatula or whisk until just combined—don’t overmix.
The batter should be thick but smooth.

Step 5: Pour and Bake
Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
If the top browns too quickly, loosely tent with foil during the last 15 minutes.

Step 6: Cool the Bread
Remove from oven and let the bread cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes.
Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before glazing.

Step 7: Make the Orange Glaze
In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and orange juice (start with 2 tbsp, add more for thinner consistency).
Stir in orange zest if using.
Drizzle over the cooled bread, letting it drip down the sides.

Step 8: Slice & Enjoy
Once the glaze sets, slice your orange bread and enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee.

Notes

Use Fresh Oranges – Freshly squeezed juice and zest make a huge difference in flavor.
Don’t Overmix – Stir just until combined to keep the bread light and tender.
Cool Completely Before Glazing – Otherwise, the glaze will melt right off.
Double the Recipe – Make one loaf to eat and one to freeze for later!
