Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar

  • ¼ tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 3 tbsp milk (dairy or non-dairy)

  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (like vegetable or canola oil)

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

  • Optional: 1 tbsp mini chocolate chips for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a microwave-safe mug, add flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt.

  2. Stir with a spoon until evenly combined.

Step 2: Add the Wet Ingredients

  1. Add milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the mug.

  2. Stir until the batter is smooth and no flour pockets remain.

Step 3: Fold in the Chocolate Chips

  1. Gently fold in 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips.

  2. For extra gooeyness, sprinkle a few extra chips on top before microwaving.

Step 4: Microwave the Cake

  1. Microwave the mug on high for 60 to 90 seconds.

  2. Check at the 60-second mark—if the top is still wet, microwave for 10–15 seconds more.

  3. The cake is done when it rises and the top looks set but slightly soft in the center.

Step 5: Cool Slightly & Enjoy

  1. Let the mug cake cool for 1–2 minutes (it will be hot!).

  2. Enjoy as-is or top with whipped cream, a scoop of ice cream, or a drizzle of chocolate syrup.

Notes

Use a Large Mug – This gives the batter room to rise without overflowing.
Don’t Overmix – Stir until just combined to keep the cake tender.
Microwave Power Varies – Start with 60 seconds and add time as needed.
Serve Warm – Mug cakes are best enjoyed right after cooking for the ideal texture.
Add Texture – Stir in nuts, shredded coconut, or peanut butter for a twist.
