Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ sauce (or ketchup)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (or maple syrup)
  • 2 teaspoons sesame seeds (or Everything Bagel Seasoning)
  • 12 Hawaiian rolls
  • 8 slices cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C). Line a baking dish with parchment paper and spread a thin layer of soft butter on it.
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions until golden brown. Add ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Drain excess grease and mix in mayonnaise, BBQ sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cut Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally. Layer cheese on the bottom half, spread beef mixture, add another cheese layer, then place the top half back.
  4. For the glaze: Mix melted butter with Dijon mustard and brown sugar; brush over the rolls and sprinkle sesame seeds. Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown.
